Poor Girls Sailfish Tournament

February 07 to February 08 in Key Largo
A large regional charity competition that typically draws more than 200 anglers, the challenge offers ten trophies, including first-, second- and third-place teams, grand champion and runner-up grand champion anglers. Entry fee includes fishing, kick-off party and awards banquet. Poor Girls events are held in conjunction with Casting for Cats, a volunteer group who freely gives time and support for the feral cats of the Upper Keys. The non-profit charity donates all the money raised for stays in the Upper Keys at the spay/neuter clinic and caring for feral cats. Female anglers compete for awards in numerous categories and divisions (bait, artificial and fly).

Jimmy Johnson's National Billfish Championship

March 08 to March 11 in Key Largo
Hosted by Jimmy Johnson, two-time Super Bowl winning coach and former head coach at the University of Miami, this prestigious billfish championship benefits the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, a South Florida-based cancer-related research, diagnosis and treatment facility. All anglers on the winning boat receive authentic, custom-designed Jimmy Johnson's NBC Championship rings.

The Long Walk Home Fishing Tournament

May 27 to May 28 in Key Largo
Headquartered at Key Largo Fisheries, events include a Pirate's Treasure Raffle, music, silent auction, two days of fishing, and awards dinner. Cash and trophy prizes are to be awarded. Proceeds benefit the Long Walk Home Veterans Charity Community Outreach.

Skippers Dolphin Tournament

June 02 to June 04 in Key Largo
This tournament is headquartered at Skippers Dockside Restaurant (former location of Coconuts), behind the Holiday Inn. A kickoff and final registration party is planned Friday, June 3; fishing days are June 4 & 5; cash prizes over $60,000 include a first-place prize of $25,000. Prizes for top six teams as well as lady and junior anglers.

Take Stock in Children Backcountry Challenge

September 22 to September 24 in Key Largo

For 18 years this annual tournament has offered anglers the opportunity to win coveted trophies for trout, snook and redfish. A popular auction showcase and Sunday evening dinner are open to the public. Proceeds support local vocational scholarships for all ages, and Take Stock in Children scholarships for financially challenged Upper Keys students.
